Laminitis Update: 4

The Racehorse Dude is MUCH better. It is amazing how quickly he recovered from that abscess. He is now pacing again when waiting for his food, and he moves with just barely noticeable tenderness rather than obvious ouchies. I, on the other hand, need some rest. I feel like this year started out with me being hit by a truck and has continued with a truck running over me at regular 10 day or so intervals. One of these days I would like to have a routine I can count on! Oh well.

Mira is looking pretty good, and Andolu has actually started losing weight, which is good. Oh, and when the vet was here last week I was somewhat surprised that Mira didn't turn tail and run when she saw him after all the shots, etc., last January! She was friendly but looked a little suspiciously at him when he was petting her. The scar on her eye hasn't changed much lately, and I don't know if it will ever decrease its size more, but at least she is comfortable and can see out of it!

I probably won't update again until after Andolu's appointment on Friday. I am glad the weather is better this week - when he first had the flareup we had three or four days of 115+ temps, which was not very good weather for being sick in!

I am very glad to hear the racehorse is doing better! And that Mira's eye is holding steady.

Glad Anatolian is doing better. I'm sure you will agree that roller coaster rides are preferred at the amusment park not in the paddock but it is what it is. You are doing great. One day at a time OK? Take a deep breath and take care of yourself too. (Everytime our Welsh Mare has an attack I start taking lots of B-complex and echinacea. I can't help her if I'm not up to snuff.) Stay cool in the shade.

Hi L
So glad that the leg is healing, sorry about Mira's eye not getting much better. Boy we must love our horses for all we endure with them. Great job on the soaking for the abscess, it is very hard to be meticulous with that sort of thing and you did great which got you the results. Most people are not meticulous enough and dont follow through and then wonder why the horse isnt healing.

Looking forward to some more updates.

OTB - Hi!

Anon - Tee hee about the amusement park. Actually, I'm a chicken and don't even like them there. I am trying to rest enough, and you're right, since I've been able to grab more sleep I am tons better and more able to deal with his needs.

Lori - Don't worry, Mira's eye is as well as it needs to be and is comfortable for her, so I don't mind if it does have a noticeable scar. Thanks - I sure am glad abscesses progress quickly with the right treatment, unlike Mira's eye taking up a whole month!
